PVR-150 or PVR-500 recordings appear `zoomed in` or `stretched` when recording at non- 720x480 resolution

DESCRIPTION:

PVR-150 or PVR-500 recordings, when viewed, appear to be "zoomed in" on a corner, or "stretched," so that the recording is missing a large chunk of the picture throughout. This happens under certain circumstances, when recording at a quality profile using a resolution other than 720x480. There is a workaround and a solution for this problem.

ARTICLE:

Workaround:

Set Beyond TV to record using the "Best (DVD Ready)" quality; since this is profile uses a resolution of 720x480, this problem will not occur. Or, upgrade to Beyond TV 4.3, which contains this workaround by default.

Solution:

Install the following version of the PVR150/500 Drivers:

You will need to download these 3 files:

HCWCLEAR
Drivers: 2.0.28.23053_pvr150-500.zip
PVR Middleware

Then, follow these directions:
  1. Run HCWCLEAR. This will remove the current WinTV-PVR drivers and WinTV applications.
  2. Unzip the 2.0.28.23053_pvr150-500.zip file to a temporary directory. Windows XP normally unzips this file to the 2.0.28.23053_pvr150-500 directory.
  3. Reboot the computer. When it restarts, the "Add New Hardware wizard" will run.
  4. In the Add Hardware Wizard's first screen, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)". Then click "Next".
  5. In the next menu, select "Include this location in the search" and enter the location of your temporary directory where you unzipped the 2.0.28.23053_pvr150-500 file to install the base driver. Then click "Next" to finish the install.

To ensure that Beyond TV is aware of the new drivers and uses them properly, be sure to delete, and re-create, the video source.
