Advanced Video Clipping with VideoReDo
Posted by Daniel Mee on 11 June 2007 03:43 PM

DESCRIPTION:

Description of advanced editing options available with VideoReDo, a third-party application.

ARTICLE:

VideoReDo provides options for editing video files that go beyond merely clipping. These options can be used to augment Enterprise TV's native clipping function in order to create clip reels, perform multiple clips at once, or cut out unwanted parts of a video.

Multiple Clips

VideoReDo allows you to select multiple segments of a program to be clipped out at once.

First, set the Editing Mode to "Scene Mode" in Tools=>Options.

Select the start and end points of a clip, then click Add Selection. The timecode of the selection will appear in the Scene List on the right, and you will be able to select a new start and end point for another segment.

When you have selected all the segments you wish to clip, click "Save As." VideoReDo will clip all of the selections and merge them into a single file, which can be played in Enterprise TV like any other clip.

Merge Clips

Use VideoReDo to merge multiple clips into a single file.

To queue a file for merging, open it in VideoReDo, select the portion of the video to be added using Set Start, Set End and Add Selection, and select Joiner=>Add Current Project to Joiner List.

To edit the joiner list, select Joiner=>Edit Joiner List. From here you can remove or change the order of files on the list.

You can also add multiple files to the joiner in one step by dragging them from Windows Explorer into VideoReDo.

One the joiner list is populated, select Joiner=>Create Video From Joiner List to merge the selected videos.

Cutting

Cutting can be performed using VideoReDo's "Cut Mode."

Switching to Cut Mode can be done in the "Editing Mode" option under Tools=>Options.

In Cut Mode, removing segments is similar to clipping them in Scene Mode. Use the Set Start and Set End buttons to define the selection, then click "Cut Selection" to perform the cut. Cut segments will appear in red, and their times will be shown in the Cut List. Select "Save As" to save the video with cuts made.

Cutting Commercials

VideoReDo's Ad-Detective tool can mark scene changes in the video corresponding to commercial breaks. Commercials can then be removed using VideoReDo's Cut mode.
