Connecting 2 DTA's to a single RF Tuner Port

DESCRIPTION:

If you need to connect two DTA's to a single RF port on a dual tuner card, you will run across issues with one DTA interfering with another. This article describes how to work around that with a Channel 4 Signal Combiner.

ARTICLE:

To connect up a single dual tuning analog card, you will need 2 DTA's, and a single Ch-4 signal combiner.

  1. First connect both of your DTA's to your cable provider's source via the CABLE IN port on the back of the DTA's.

  2. Set one of the DTA's to output it's signal on channel 3 by flipping the switch on the back of the DTA.

  3. Set the other DTA to output it's signal on channel 4 by flipping the switch on the back of the DTA.

  4. Connect the DTA that is set to channel 4 via it's TO TV port to the CH-4 IN port on the signal combiner.

  5. Connect the DTA that is set to channel 3 via it's TO TV port to the ANT IN port on the signal combiner.

  6. Connect the signal combiner via the TO TV port to the RF TV port on your tuner card.


  7. Both tuners on your tuner card should now be able to lock on to channel 3 to record from one DTA, and lock onto channel 4 to record from the other DTA. The channel 4 signal combiner simply allows you to do this without channels 3 and 4 interfering with each other.

    You will now need to setup IR blasting to allow your system to control what television channel the DTA's are set to view.
