Testing IR Blasting in Enterprise TV 4
Posted by Adrienne Gonzalez on 22 March 2011 01:02 PM

DESCRIPTION:

This article will explain how to use Enterprise TV 4 to test out all of your IR blasting hardware and configurations.

NOTE: This article assumes that there are no recording jobs running. If you have recording jobs running, you will need to stop them in order to go through this process.

ARTICLE:

Testing IR Blasting in Enterprise TV 4.

  1. Open the Enterprise TV Web Administration Page.
Right-click the Enterprise TV tray icon, and go to "Advanced Settings".

  2. Select "Audio and Video Inputs".

Here you will see your tuners listed in the order that they will be used (from top to bottom).

  3. To test the first tuner in the list, simply open the Enterprise TV ViewScape (double click the Enterprise TV tray icon) and use the program guide to tune into a channel that this tuner has access to. Once Live TV comes up, you can use the number pad on your keyboard paired with the enter key to change the channel.

There are a few common issues that can happen here resulting in the channel not changing.

    • None of the blink emitters are flashing when you try to change channels: Re-seat the stereo to mono adapter and blink emitter connections on the USB-UIRT that you are trying to use, and make sure that everything is firmly plugged in.

    • The emitter flashes, but the channel didn't change: Check to ensure that the blink emitter bulb is placed directly over the IR sensor on the set-top box.

If the bulb placement is fine, unplug the video cable from the set-top box, and wait a few seconds. If we are working with the correct set-top box, the video should drop out when looking at the ViewScape. If this is not the case, unplug the video cable for each set-top box one at a time until you identify which one is attached to the tuner that we are working with. Once identified, move the blink emitter to the correct set-top box sensor.

    • Some numbers are punched in incorrectly or are missed entirely: It might be necessary to adjust your Advanced Tuning Settings and/or create a new custom IR tuning profile.

NOTE: Make sure that you are changing to a channel that you are sure that you have. Example: If you don't have HBO and you try to tune to HBO, it can appear that your IR BLasting hardware isn't working correctly. You can hide channels that you don't have by using the WebAdmin > Basic Settings > Channels.

  4. To test another tuner in your list, you will need to back out of Live TV using the Enterprise TV ViewScape (the Esc key on your keyboard works for this purpose).

  5. Go back to the Audio and Video Inputs screen of the web admin.
Disable all of the tuners listed above the tuner you would like to test. This is accomplished by clicking the disable button next to each of the tuners that you want disabled.

NOTE: You will need to wait for the page to refresh after disabling or enabling each tuner.

In the example above, we would be testing tuner 4.

  6. Now use the program guide in the Enterprise TV Link ViewScape to test Live Television. You will now be using the highest tuner in the list that isn't disabled. Use the number pad and the enter key on your keyboard to flip channels.

  7. Repeat steps to test each of your tuners that use IR blasting.

  8. Once you have tested all of your tuners, make sure to go back into the Enterprise TV Web Administration Interface to re-enable all of your tuners. This is accomplished the same way that you disabled your tuners, except you will be selecting the Enable button instead of the Disable button.
