DESCRIPTION: The Beyond TV Setup Wizard does not recognize that my IRBlaster (ActiSys IR-200L) is connected, or does not change the channel for a supported DirecTV set-top box. Resident softwares or drivers for items that once used the serial port(s) or hardware conflicts will cause the Setup Wizard to fail to see the IR-200L. NOTE: Serial tuning is not compatible with all receivers.ARTICLE: 1: Ensure that the COM ports are ENABLED in the computer's BIOS settings and that they show up in the Hardware Device Manager. (In Windows XP, this can be accessed through CONTROL PANEL --> SYSTEM, HARDWARE (tab), DEVICE MANAGER (button).)2: Check your Hardware Device Manager for any resource conflicts. (See above.) The most common resource conflict with a serial port comes from a modem, so make sure that the serial port and the modem are using different resources. Windows will indicate any conflicts with a warning sign. You can correct these conflicts by right-clicking on a conflicting device, going to the "Resources" tab, unchecking the "Use Automatic Settings" box, and selecting one of the "basic configurations" from the drop-down list. Once you have found a configuration that does not cause any conflicts, reboot, ensure that all programs that use the serial port are shut down, and run the Setup Wizard (available from the same Program Group as Beyond TV) again. 3: Ensure that any drivers for devices that were once connected to the serial port (for example, PocketPC data transfer cables) has been removed. Please note: This includes the drivers for the ActiSys IR-200L itself; the Setup Wizard will install the necessary drivers. Reboot, and ensure also that any software which uses the serial port has been shut down. Run the Setup Wizard again; it should now detect your IR-200L. 4: If using the serial tuning option, ensure that the set-top box itself is set to use the serial connection on the back as a low-speed data port, if its use is configurable. 5: If using a serial tuning option, download and try using the utility available here: DTVcon (website is no longer available) to change channels on your set-top box. If it does not work, take note of the error messages, if any, that it gives you. If they do not lead you to a solution, then be sure to mention them (verbatim) when you e-mail Tech Support. 6: Try switching COM ports. If you're connected to COM2, try COM1, and vice-versa. Finally, in some cases, Windows will detect a modem occupying the serial port you need for your tuning method. Go to the Device Manager (CONTROL PANEL --> SYSTEM --> HARDWARE (tab) --> DEVICE MANAGER (button)) and remove the modem it has erroneously detected from the list. You should now be able to setup your IR-200L / serial cable tuner properly. | |
