After ShowSqueeze to DivX or Windows Media, aspect ratios are incorrect; image will appear `stretched` or `squashed`
After ShowSqueeze to DivX or Windows Media, aspect ratios are incorrect; image will appear `stretched` or `squashed` - SnapStream Knowledgebase
Solution
DESCRIPTION:
After using the ShowSqueeze function to compress (transcode) a file to the DivX or Windows Media (WMV) format, aspect ratios are incorrect. During playback, the video may look "stretched" or "squashed."
The DivX format does not store aspect ratio information. This means that if you are transcoding to DivX:
from a resolution that is inherently 4:3 to a resolution that is
not
inherently 4:3, or
from a resolution that is
not
inherently 4:3 without "resize on transcode" enabled,
the resulting file will play back at the wrong "auto" aspect ratio.
Files transcoded to WMV format will have the same problem unless Windows Media Player 9 is installed.
ARTICLE:
To work around this problem for existing files, hit "G" on your keyboard during playback and set "Aspect Ratio" to "Stretch."
To solve the problem for future ShowSqueeze jobs, be sure to transcode with resizing enabled to a resolution in the 4:3 aspect ratio, for example to the "DivX portable (High)" quality setting. Examples of common resolutions in the 4:3 aspect ratio are 320x240, 640x480, 800x600. For more information on accessing the Web Admin interface and viewing / editing quality profiles, see the Beyond TV Help documentation.
For Windows Media files, either upgrade to Windows Media Player version 9 or greater or edit the target Quality setting so that it is using Windows Media version 9 video.
