Multiple Tuner limitations of the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-500 /PVR-500 MCE and PVR-150 - SnapStream Knowledgebase
Solution
DESCRIPTION:
Although the Hauppauge
WinTV PVR-500 / 500 MCE
has two tuner devices on it, because of the limited number of connections available on the rear of the device, some configurations (e.g. two S-Video inputs) cannot be achieved by default. Only one
WinTV PVR-150
infrared transmitter (IR Blaster) can be used in one setup.
ARTICLE:
The PVR-500MCE
, despite the fact that it has two separate tuners, only has two separate video inputs:
Coaxial input
S-Video
OR
Composite input*
For example, in a setup with two satellite boxes, one would have to use the coaxial input and the other would have to use S-Video or Composite. Tuning two Basic Cable or Antenna inputs can be achieved on one Coaxial input alone. If the setup requires more than one S-Video or Composite input, purchase the
A/V Cable Set
to enable an extra set of composite inputs and an S-Video input.
*S-Video carries video only, so an S-Video input must use the Composite audio inputs.
More than one of
the PVR-150
's IR Blaster tuning devices cannot be in operation in a single system. For example, in a setup with two satellite boxes, the first PVR-150 could use its IR Blaster to change channels on a satellite box, but the second would have to use a different tuning method, such as a serial cable or USB-UIRT interface. This is a driver limitation that has yet to be addressed.
