No audio, or poorly tuned video image, occurs on some channels
No audio, or poorly tuned video image, occurs on some channels - SnapStream Knowledgebase
Solution
DESCRIPTION:
The user finds that Beyond TV does not receive audio, or receives a poor signal, on some cable channels in a basic cable setup. However, proper reception can be achieved in a different tuner program by adjusting, or "fine tuning," the frequencies used.
Beyond TV uses the DirectShow (part of DirectX) frequency tables to tune cable channels. Although it is very rare that these settings are improper for a given setup, a method of adjustment is provided by Microsoft.
NOTE: If using a PVR-150 or PVR-500
, download and install
these drivers
. Afterwards, be sure to delete, and re-create, the Video Sources by using the Beyond TV Setup Wizard (available from the same Program Group as Beyond TV) as described
here
. This should fix the problem.
If the above either does not work, or does not apply, proceed below.
ARTICLE:
(Microsoft's instructions on overriding DirectShow frequencies can be found
here
.)
Enter the registry editor (START BUTTON --> RUN --> REGEDIT) and navigate to the following "folder" in the leftmost window pane: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\TV System Services\TVAutoTune\TS0-1"
Right-click in an empty space in the right-most pane and select NEW --> DWORD Value. Name it the number of the channel you are specifying the override for. Right-click on the new DWORD entry and it and select "Modify." Check the radio button marked "decimal," enter the value in Hz, and hit OK.
Some third-party tuning softwares (such as
Dscaler
) will report the frequency being used when you make adjustments. After tuning with such an application you should be able to copy the values into the registry.
After making all of the edits necessary, it is strongly recommended that you export these registry settings so that you can import them later after a reinstall or to another computer using the same cable input. To do this, right-click on the TS0-1 value and select "export."
If this key does not exist or the above does not help,
we suggest
downloading and using the FreqCopy program
to modify the tuning frequencies.
If you are
not
using a Hauppauge device, this program is useful for inserting the registry keys necessary to perform the DirectShow overrides.
If you
are
using a Hauppauge card, this program is especially helpful: be sure to use WinTV2000 to scan for, and tune, all channels first -- then use FreqCopy to copy the WinTV2000 frequency entries to the DirectShow override section of the registry.
