Solution

DESCRIPTION:

This article contains a list of the most common problems encountered when using HDTV in Beyond TV 4, and their respective solutions.

If none of these suggestions helps, or you are experiencing a problem not described in this article, please contact SnapStream Technical Support.

ARTICLE:

Recorded Shows
  • An HDTV recording plays from the Recorded Shows Screen, but the video is often intermittently choppy and / or has pixellation, or "artifacts".
If video playback is intermittently choppy or contains pixellation or "artifacts," chances are very good that the signal is poor. Ensure that reception is good on that particular channel by checking its signal strength in the Setup Wizard. Please note that even with a very high signal strength, some imperfections may exist in the file and that these problems may (though rarely) appear.

  • An HDTV recording plays from the Recorded Shows Screen without audio, or as though on "mute."
If there is also no sound during playback even from regular recordings, please check the basics (sound cables connected, volume turned up, etc). If there is no sound only from HDTV recordings, the audio may be configured incorrectly:
    • If S/PDIF is being used, please make sure that both Beyond TV and the audio card are set to use S/PDIF.
    • >
    • If not using S/PDIF, please make sure that the chosen speaker mode is compatible with Beyond TV.
If S/PDIF is not working, there may be a problem with your sound card’s drivers related to S/PDIF; check the manufacturer's website for updates and try again.

  • An HDTV recording plays from the Recorded Shows Screen, but 5.1 channel audio is not produced from 5.1 channel Dolby Digital speakers.
If there is no sound in Beyond TV, even from playback of regular recordings, then please check the basics (sound cables connected, volume turned up, etc). If there still is no sound, please ensure that the sound card’s drivers, and Beyond TV, are using the same speaker mode. If after that there is still no sound, there may be a problem with the sound card’s drivers; check the manufacturer's website for updates and try again.

  • ShowSqueeze jobs cannot be started on an HDTV recording.
ShowSqueeze for HD recordings was first added in Beyond TV 4.3. Upgrade Beyond TV to enable this functionality.

  • A warning message indicating that a recording did not receive data for 30 seconds appeared. What does this mean?
This usually means that the antenna is disconnected or that it is pointed in the wrong direction. Please ensure that the antenna is connected and pointed correctly to receive the desired channel.

Live TV
  • Attempting to access Live TV results in an “unable to start viewing Live TV” message.
This can mean that the signal was so poor that Beyond TV was unable to read the necessary information for display. Please ensure that the antenna is pointed correctly for the selected channel and try again.

  • Cannot change from an HDTV channel to a non-HDTV channel in Live TV

  • This problem has been identified on several tuner cards, but should be solved. If you experience this problem, please contact technical support.

Setup Wizard
  • The Setup Wizard warns that some of the selected HDTV channels have weak signals.

This means that some of the channels selected in the Signal Strength Page have weak enough signals that Beyond TV won’t be able to play/record them. It is strongly recommended to deselect all such channels before proceeding, or to reposition the antenna until a sufficient signal is detected.

  • The Setup Wizard was unable to find any channels when creating a scanned lineup.

If Beyond TV is unable to find any channels, the antenna may be pointed in the wrong direction. Try repositioning the antenna and try again.
