Solution

DESCRIPTION:

After watching a show containing AC3 sound in Beyond TV (as off HDTV sources) through an S/PDIF output, all sound on the system, even windows "error" sound effects, no longer works.

ARTICLE:

This is known to happen due to a driver problem with certain audio devices using VIA or SoundMax audio chips.

We know that the following sound cards using VIA chipsets will experience this problem:


  • M-Audio Revolution 7.1

  • Chaintech AV-710

  • Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1

  • Turtle Beach Catalina

  • Terratec Aureon Space 7.1

  • Any card using the Envy24 Chipset



We have asked for information from VIA as to what we may be able to do in Beyond TV to solve this problem.


We also know that the SoundMax "ADI 1985" will exhibit this problem as well. We are currently working with Soundmax to resolve this problem.


Please note that in either case, more VIA or SoundMax sound devices may exhibit this problem. The listed model numbers have been tested in-house or with beta program members and were found to have this problem.

One user noted that the problem could be worked around by switching to the SnapStream Basic Audio Decoder via SETTINGS --> PLAYBACK SETTINGS.
