Video does not play in Overlay mode on secondary display or multiple monitors - SnapStream Knowledgebase
Solution

DESCRIPTION:

The user notices (most often in Beyond TV / Link 4.3) that playback on a secondary display (a second monitor, or television, connected to the Beyond TV machine) does not occur with the Overlay renderer selected. This always results in a black screen where the video should appear, though audio will usually play.

Starting with version 4.3, Beyond TV / Link now attempts to enforce DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) because many systems with multiple displays would get into a state where DXVA was disabled altogether. This would result in poor playback performance on the primary display, and often the only workaround to restore DXVA on the system was to disable the secondary display altogether.

We recommend playback only on the primary display, as performance issues such as increased CPU usage or "stuttering" playback will often result from playback on secondary displays, irrespective of the version of Beyond TV being used. This information, which will solve this problem, is only presented as an aid to users who have a need to display video on a secondary display, and can tolerate the performance issues caused by taking the following steps.

ARTICLE:

  1. Shut down Beyond TV / Link on the computer exhibiting the problem.
  2. Open the Registry Editor (START BUTTON --> RUN --> REGEDIT) on the computer exhibiting the problem.
  3. Navigate to the following "folder" in the left pane:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CyberLink\Common\CLVSD\BTVD3DShell\
  4. Left-click on the "BTVD3DShell" entry in the left pane to highlight it.
  5. Turn your attention to the right pane, right-click on the text "TwinViewDXVA," and select "Modify."
  6. Change this value from 1 to 0 and hit the OK button.
  7. Exit the Registry Editor and restart Beyond TV.
Video should now play on the secondary monitor with the Overlay renderer selected.
