Setting up a Digital Converter Box

ARTICLE:

At this moment, Beyond TV does not fully support Digital Converter Boxes, but here is a temporary solution. Also, since the Digital Converter Boxes aren't fully supported, you are only able to tune the 1st channel of the Over the Air ATSC subchannels. For Example, if NBC had 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 and etc, you will only be able to access 2-1.

Before we get started, you will need a few things before you setup your Digital Converter Box. (This article assumes that you have already installed Beyond TV before and have your IR Blaster installed.)

  • A SnapStream.Net account.
  • A trainable IR Blaster (USB-UIRT is the recommended solution)
  • The Digital Converter Box with remote control connected to the antenna and your TV tuner.

Step 1: Create a custom lineup in SnapStream.Net

In your internet browser of choice, go to http://www.snapstream.net/configure/CustomLineupWizard.aspx. The page will not display the Custom lineup Wizard if you are not logged in, so log into your account.

  1. Once your in the Custom Lineup Wizard, click on Import Channels.

  2. Now go through the wizard to select your TV listings, make sure you select Atenna (Digital) during this wizard and then select the channels that you would like to view and then click Import at the bottom of the screen.

  3. You will be taken back to the Custom Lineup page now, please give the lineup a Friendly Name if you would like, change the Lineup Type to Analog and then make sure you do not have any duplicate Physical Channels. As previously stated, only the 1st channel of the subchannels are supported.

  4. You have completed the custom lineup, please logout of SnapStream.Net and continue with the steps.

Step 2: Run the Beyond TV Setup Wizard

If you currently have Beyond TV running, please completely shut it down. Look in the bottom right corner by your clock, if there is a Beyond TV icon in the system tray, please right click on it and select Exit. Once Beyond TV has completely shutdown, start the Beyond TV setup wizard from Start - All Programs - SnapStream Media - Beyond TV menu. The Beyond TV setup wizard will guide you through the installation of your TV tuner and Digital Converter Box.

  1. Once the Setup Wizard starts, click on Next until you get to the Audio and Video Sources screen. From this screen, you will select Edit an Existing Source and click Next. You will then delete the source you were previously using before with your analog antenna. If you don't have any more sources, it will automatically take you back to the Audio and Video Sources screen, if you still have existing sources, click Next and it will take you back there.

  2. Now that your back to the Audio and Video Sources screen, select Add a New Source and then Next. Select External Cable Box on the Video Broadcast Source screen and click Next.

  3. You will now select your Capture Device, click on the drop down box and select the device you intend to use with the Digital Converter Box and then Next.

  4. The Channel Lineup screen will be next, the custom lineup you created in Step 1 should be selectable here, select Select an existing lineup and then click Next.

  5. Click on the drop down box and choose the Digital Converter Box custom lineup and then Next.

  6. Click on the drop down box on the Video Input screen and select the way you have the Digital Converter Box connected to your TV tuner and click Next.

  7. On the Channel Output page, you can change the channel you would like, but by default it is set to 3 and then click Next.

  8. The Tuning Device screen now appears, in order for Beyond TV to change the channels on your Digital Converter Box, it requires an IR Blaster to send the signals to the box. We recommend the use of an USB-UIRT IR Blaster because it is a complete trainable IR Blaster. The likelihood of your Digital Converter Box being supported by a predefined set of IR Codes are most likely slim to none. So select USB-UIRT from the drop down box and click Next.

  9. On the Select Set-top Box Model screen, just click Next as I stated before, the likelihood your Digital Converter Box is listed is slim to none.

  10. The Advanced Tuning Settings page should not need to be modified unless you would like to input a device name for your Digital Converter Box and then click Next.

  11. You will now encounter the USB-UIRT's training page, click on Train and then use the Digital Converter Box's remote control to press the buttons as it states. Once you are done training the USB-UIRT, click Next.

  12. Now on the External Tuning Testing screen, it may not tune your stations properly, but what you really want to look for is that the USB-UIRT is actually changing your channels.

  13. Complete the rest of the Beyond TV Setup wizard by clicking Next through the rest of the screens and your Digital Converter Box should be setup with Beyond TV.
