DESCRIPTION:
The user notices that, on Beyond TV machines, a window labeled "ActiveMovie" will appear on machines running Beyond TV when a recording begins or finishes.

In some cases, this window plays the recording Beyond TV is making, or will appear on a PC running Beyond TV Link, seemingly without warning.

ARTICLE:
We have heard from users that this occurs due to the "Orb" software. Removing the "Orb" software from the PC will solve the problem. An update to the software, if available, may also solve the problem.

DESCRIPTION:
This article contains instructions for resolving the most common causes for failure connecting the Beyond TV Link client to a Beyond TV server via a Local Area Network (LAN) connection. Please note that the use of Beyond TV Link over a Wide Area Network (WAN / the Internet).
ARTICLE:
<as html>First, ensure that you are running the same version of Link as Beyond TV. For example, if you are running Beyond TV 3.5.2, you also must be running Beyond TV Link 3.5.2. The versions of Beyond TV and of Beyond TV Link on our website are always the most current. Then, check the following four causes of this problem and try their resolutions.

If using a proxy server, the subnet mask must be added to the list of "ignored" addresses in Internet Explorer's settings. To retrieve the "subnet mask" value:

Select the "Run" option from the Windows START button. In the box that appears, type:
ipconfig
and hit ENTER. The "Subnet Mask" value will be displayed.

To enter this value in the appropriate location:

Select "Internet Options" from the Control Panel. On the "Connections" tab of the "Internet Options" window, hit the "LAN Settings..." button. In the "Proxy server" section of the next window, hit the "Advanced..." button. Finally, enter the subnet mask in the "Exceptions" box, and hit OK. Hit APPLY (if available) or OK on the remaining windows to close them and accept the changes.

Next, try Beyond TV Link again. If it still fails to connect, proceed to the next step.

On both computers, open the "My Network Places" window from the Windows START button. On the left side of the screen, you should see a list of tasks. (If you do not see this list, go to TOOLS --> FOLDER OPTIONS. On the "General" tab, check the radio button marked "Show common tasks in folders" and hit "Apply." You can revert to your original settings after doing this, if you like.) Click on the link labeled "Show Icons for Networked UPnP Devices" to enable the use of UPnP (which is necessary for Beyond TV Link to work properly); afterwards, reboot both machines and try to connect via Link again). If the "Show Icons for networked UPnP Devices" option is not available, UPnP is already enabled.

If that does not solve the problem, please check to ensure that the UPNP and SSDP services are running on both computers. To do so, right-click "My Computer" and select "Manage." Expand the "Services and Applications" item in the leftmost pane, and select "Services." Check to see that the "SSDP Discovery Service" and "Universal Plug and Play Device Host" services read "Started" in the "Status" column.
If the services are not started, right click on each, and select TASKS --> START. To ensure that these services are running the next time you need them, right-click on each service, select "Properties," and set "Startup Type" to either "Manual" or "Automatic." Then, reboot the system and try to connect via Link again.

If that does not solve the problem, please note that firewall programs like Norton Internet Security (NIS), ZoneAlarm, and the Windows XP Firewall typically block the UPNP/SSDP protocol over the network and may need to be adjusted to allow Beyond TV to stream to Beyond TV Link. Please contact the manufacturer of your firewall solution on how to correct this. If you are using a hardware firewall / router device, you should not need to modify any settings. However, at least one user has reported that using a different version of his router's firmware solved the problem. The user in question was using a Linksys WRT54GS, and noted that using version 4.71.1 of the firmware solved the problem.

After correcting for any blocking of UPnP / SSDP traffic, restart Beyond TV and Beyond TV Link, and try to connect via Link again.

If this does not solve the problem, please visit the Windows Update website and select the "custom install" process on both PC's. When the updater is done looking for updates, be sure to:

Install any available updates for the ".net Framework 1.1" (often
listed under the "optional updates" section)

Install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, or Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000.

Reboot, and try again. If this does not solve the problem, please write our Technical Support department by completing and submitting the form located here.

Describes how to change the settings for the playback bar and program information overlays that appear when starting video playback.

ARTICLE:

You can change the settings for the theater (playback) screen in the playback interface by editing the Settings file.

Note: These instructions change settings for the machine on which they are performed only. If you are running SnapStream software in a client/server environment, these changes should be made on the client machine, not the server.

Shut down the software

Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Beyond TV

Open the file Settings.xml in a text or XML editor

Locate the following text:

TransparentGuideTimeout30
This value defines the timeout for the title/program guide box in seconds. To disable, set this value to -1.

TheaterHUDTimeout5
This value defines the timeout for the playback bar in seconds (if it is less than the above setting, it defines both). The playback bar overlay can effectively be disabled by setting this option to 0.

Once you've edited these settings to your satisfaction, save Settings.xml and restart the software.

For users of Enterprise TV Link:
C:\Program Files\SnapStream Media\Enterprise TV Link\Styles\NTSC\Default Styles\Default Styles

This file can be edited using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or any other program that supports the PSD file format.

When attempting to change the DVD background, please note the following:

1. Any time you attempt to edit anything from the Program Files directory, back up the original before doing anything else

2. Use caution when editing the background file, as changing the arrangement of the image layers can have undesirable results

3. Enterprise TV Link and Beyond TV Link access a local copy of the background file for DVD burning, NOT the copy on the server. To implement a new background across multiple client machines, the new background file must be copied to each machine.

DESCRIPTION:

Refer to this article for a list of ports, protocols, and executables using those ports. Firewalls and / or routers will need to be configured to allow Beyond TV's executables to use these ports (and protocols, where applicable) in order for Beyond TV's remote access options, and guide updates, to work properly. For information on configuring your specific firewall or router to allow access to the required ports, see the firewall or router's documentation.

NOTES:

Starting with Beyond TV 3.5, a warning will be issued on startup if a firewall (for example, Norton Internet Security) is installed. Once you have taken these steps to ensure that your firewall will not affect Beyond TV, simply choose to "ignore" rather than "dismiss" the error, and it will not appear again.

ZoneAlarm users: Ensure that you have "loopback" added to the "trusted sites" list in ZoneAlarm for both the firewall and its cookie / pop-up blocking features. If this does not help, the pop-up ad and/or cookie functions may have to be disabled, or the Live TV streaming port changed, in order for Beyond TV to work properly over your network.

ARTICLE:

Port 8129*: This port is used by the SnapStream Web server for remote accessibility.
(TCP, incoming and outgoing, by BTVWebServer.exe)

Port 1755*: This port is used by the SnapStream Built-in media server to stream recorded content.
(TCP, incoming and outgoing, by BTVWebServer.exe)

Port 8080*: This port is used in order to watch a live recording.
(UDP. incoming and outgoing**, by BTVWebServer.exe)

Port 80: This is for the port forwarder function. This function can be disabled in the Web Admin interface.
(HTML, BTVWebServer.exe)

Port 443: This port is used by Beyond TV to retrieve data from Snapstream.net.
(SHTML, BTVGuideDataLoader.exe)

In addition, version 3.5 and later need the following available:

Port 8135: This port is used by the Web Admin interface for downloading recordings.
(BTVWebServer.exe)

UPnP (port 1900): Universal Plug "'n" Play (UPnP) must be enabled on the machine for Beyond TV Link. Many firewalls have a global setting to enable UPNP.***
(BTVWebServer.exe)

* If these ports conflict with other programs you're using, you can set them via the Web Admin (in the case of the Web Admin port, of course, the conflicting program must be shut down first).

To set the "recorded stream" and "live stream" ports:

In 3.4.4 and previous, open in Internet Explorer the Web Admin interface (http://localhost:8129) on the machine running Beyond TV, and navigate to: CONFIGURE --> ADVANCED SETTINGS --> STREAMING SERVER SETTINGS.

In 3.5.0 and later, open the Web Admin as described above and navigate to SETTINGS --> ADVANCED SETTINGS --> STREAMING SERVER SETTINGS.
NOTE: In version 4.0 and later, the setting for "Live TV streaming port" is linked to the streaming device and as such has been moved to SETTINGS --> AUDIO AND VIDEO INPUTS. Edit the streaming-capable capture device to find the options "Enable Windows Media Live Streaming" and its attendant port setting.

To set the "admin" (Web Admin) port:

In 3.4.4 and previous, open the Web Admin as described above and navigate to CONFIGURE --> ADVANCED SETTINGS --> WEB SERVER SETTINGS.

In 3.5.0 to 3.7.2, open the Web Admin as described above and navigate to SETTINGS --> ADVANCED SETTINGS --> WEB SERVER SETTINGS.

In 3.7.4 and later, open the Web Admin as described above and navigate to SETTINGS --> AUDIO AND VIDEO INPUTS. Edit the video source that will be performing the streaming, and select "Show more options" from the top of the page. When "Windows Media Live Streaming" is set to Enabled, the "Windows Media Live Streaming Port" option will appear.

There are many reasons you may need to know exactly what version of Beyond TV or Beyond TV Link you're using. For example, a particular incremental release may correct a bug you're experiencing. In order to determine if upgrading will resolve the issue, you need to know the exact version of Beyond TV currently installed. Also, another example is that you have to have matching versions for Beyond TV and Link for it to properly link to each other.

DESCRIPTION:

This article gives instructions for forcing Beyond TV Link or Enterprise TV Link to display a list of specific SnapStream Enterprise TV Servers when it starts up. This procedure can be useful for users with multiple servers, that do not show up in the server list displayed by Enterprise TV Link on startup. Note: this feature is only available in version 4.9.2 or later of Beyond TV Link and Enterprise TV Link.

Note: This procedure will hard-code the IP addresses of the servers. If those addresses change, a client machine modified using this procedure will not account for that change, and the IP address will need to be changed manually using the instructions below.

ARTICLE:

Create BTVLinkServerList.xml
Go to the Application Data folder on your Link client(usually C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Beyond TV\ for Windows XP and C:\ProgramData\SnapStream\Beyond TV\ for Windows Vista) and make a new text file called BTVLinkServerList. Then, change the extension of the file you have created from TXT to XML.

Add the Connection Information
Using the text or XML editor of your choice, open BTVLinkServerList.xml and enter the following text:

<SSPropsCollection&gt
     <PropertyCollection&gt
          <Property&gt
               <Name>FriendlyName</Name&gt
               <Value>Server Name</Value&gt
          </Property&gt
          <Property&gt
               <Name>Address</Name&gt
               <Value>127.0.0.1</Value&gt
          </Property&gt
          <Property&gt
               <Name>Port</Name&gt
               <Value>8129</Value&gt
          </Property&gt
     </PropertyCollection&gt
</SSPropsCollection&gt

Change the Server Name and Address fields to reflect the name and IP address of your SnapStream server.

Adding Additional Connections:
If you want to add additional connections, add a Property Collection inside the SSPropsCollection category like so:

<SSPropsCollection&gt
     <PropertyCollection&gt
          <Property&gt
               <Name>FriendlyName</Name&gt
               <Value>Server Name</Value&gt
          </Property&gt
          <Property&gt
               <Name>Address</Name&gt
               <Value>127.0.0.1</Value&gt
          </Property&gt
          <Property&gt
               <Name>Port</Name&gt
               <Value>8129</Value&gt
          </Property&gt
     </PropertyCollection&gt
     <PropertyCollection&gt
          <Property&gt
               <Name>FriendlyName</Name&gt
               <Value>Server Name</Value&gt

DESCRIPTION:

By default, the SnapStream interface will disable any screensaver settings when playback begins. Users who wish to have their computer lock after a certain period of time even if video playback or Live TV are in progress should use these instructions. These instructions do not affect system behavior when the interface is open but no video is playing.

ARTICLE:

Starting with version 4.9.2 of SnapStream software, you can prevent the screensaver from being disabled during playback by editing the Settings file.

Note: These instructions change settings for the machine on which they are performed only. If you are running SnapStream software in a client/server environment, these changes should be made on the client machine, not the server.

Warning! This settings change may cause the SnapStream interface to stutter or hang when the computer is unlocked.

Shut down the software

Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Beyond TV

Open the file Settings.xml in a text or XML editor

Locate the text AlwaysAllowScreenSaver. To prevent the screensaver from being disabled, change the value for this property from 0 to 1.

Once you've edited these settings to your satisfaction, save Settings.xml and restart the software.
